Keli, I soaked it in cold water for about an hour the first time and longer the second time. I admit I didn't keep very good records; I need to get a notebook for this.
I used tap water though I've heard rain water is better; I didn't happen to have any.
All my fiber prep information is from Ravelry on the "Fiber Prep" and other forums plus sometimes a referenced blog. Are you a member of Ravelry? You can go on there to the Forums page and search for fiber prep or cold water soak. It's amazing how much you can learn!
